Advent 5480DVD

Postby Trevor Bowen » Mon Oct 21, 2002 7:56 am

I have just installed XP and keep getting an error message on boot up until the machine is warm. It keeps saying the bios is not ACPI compatible. My Bios version is
"AMERICAN MEGETRENDS VER 1.03 and my motherboard ID string is
62-0213-001403-00101111-071595-SIS630-3405001-0

I have seen other messages saying to change computer from ACPI to STANDARD but cannot fin how.

Also if I upgrade to Bios version 1.09 this solves the problem?

Any help would be appreciated

Mine doesn't look like a search engine.

Not PC Chips and not a BookPC but a Laptop from our friends at Gericom, this model being one of the most popular ones at the time it was released, I think there is at least 20 companies rebadging this one:

I would start with upgrading the bios, yes. Be absolutely sure you have a stable mains connection when doing this. If you have a power failure doing the upgrade, you have a bricked laptop and will cost some effort (if possible anyway) to revive it. If even with the newest bios it says it is not ACPI compliant you will have to do a non-ACPI install of windows, check the google results for that search term.
We hate rut, but we fear change.

The post is 9 years old. You'd be lucky for anything to be around that long without updates on the net.
