just like to say hello first of all

right here goes, i've had a 14month old toshiba laptop that has stopped working. no led lights on the front nothing its dead, checked power supply and its ok. i know its a needle in a hay stack, but may be someone can shine some light. i could put it on e-bay for spares but to be honest its a nice laptop and i would like to get it fixed..i do think it will be a mother/system board replacement but may someone has experience the same..

TOSHIBA
L500D-16M
AMD ATHLON II M300
4GB RAM 800MHZ
15.6HD LED SCREEN
320GB HD

or maybe someone can point in right direction for a new motherboard

if you need any more info let me know

cheers
wayne

The prices for new laptops these days, I would say put the broken one on ebay and get a new one. Replacing major components in a laptop like a motherboard is not for the faint at heart, and professionally done is gonna cost a pretty penny.

refurb going at 300 UKP
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0328255107

Motherboard as seperate part almost impossible to find = very expensive most likely, >300 UKP. Either buy a refurb and transfer your harddisk or buy a new one. Oh and since it is only 14 months after purchase, check out if the store you bought it cannot file it in warranty, you surely can expect a longer life from a laptop.

I'd test the power adapter first just to see if that is the culprit. It might not be charging the battery and/or have enough juice to power the laptop.
Other then that, everyone else is pretty much correct.
