The issue is very, very simple. Not all numbers can be well repsented with a denominator that's a multiple of 10.

The number you want to use to divide a pie equally is 1/9. The apparent 'error' comes up when trying that to force itself to a number with a multiple of 10 in the denominator.

Now, if we just stuck with Binary - no problems... (well, not as many - pi is going to continue to be an approximation). but in Binary you simply cut the pie into 1001 pieces, where each piece is 1/1001 of the pie.

What a daft discussion.

0.999 is as much 1 as pi is 3.15

I can't believe you spammed 3 pages out of this.

The real point is significant digits. While pi may be said to equal 3.14, 3.16 or 3.14159 depending on scale or accuracy needed; 0.999... will always round to 1.
