I think the fact that Mary Jane's legality failed just goes to prove that too many people get sucked in and believe whatever the media brainwashes them with even when it is totally contrary to the truth.

In other words, the media had many, many people brainwashed that marijuana was going to easily pass in California. All of the media, actors, actresses, etc., etc. claimed it was so easy that people should have had "farms" six months ago. BUT, guess what, it failed....tremendously!

It just goes to show that despite what some druggy media mogul in California says, California does not necessarily feel the way the media implies.

From what I have observed about the US through media and personal experience is that it is a majority conservative country - people do not like change there.... Also I have noticed that the majority of the populous will follow the Govt. over any other critic...

The UK is much the same...

And they are both the same with people calling for the legalisation of drugs and prostitution... Wether or not it will work or won't work, it'll never happen... There are just too many conservatively minded people who will not stand for the change...

Look at it this way...

Pros for legalisation....
TAX, TAX and TAX....
Jobs
Certain health benefits (MS and so forth)..

Cons for legalisation....
Corruption
Gateway to harder drugs
Lack of control/regulation
Higher chance of accidents
Possible side effects such as Mental Illness

There are just too many cons for it to ever be legalised... just think of that annoying shout '.... but what about the children.'

i would say it more like the country is more left leaning, but a large portion of left-leaners don't vote often enough.
our population is aging too, baby boomers getting ripe, and most turn a bit more reactionary when aged. elderly also have nothing much left to do but vote, and that is fine, they learned their lesson.

if those marijuanna laws had been up the 2008, or in the coming 2012 election...

Not just that, now with the recent tragedy in Arizona leaving 6 dead, the gunman smoked marijuana according to the headlines.. Say good bye to any chance of clear legalisation...

he had an arrest in 2007 for paraphernalia. other reports say he stopped smoking in 2008. right-wingers pump this up as him being a "pot-smoking liberal", like liberals are the only ones who smoke pot. there simply isn't enough out there to pin the future of legalization on this.

he probably played violent video games too...they'd pin that on everyone that plays games as well, just like they did with the columbine shooters.

maybe he should have continued to smoke - he probably wouldn't have gone out and attacked people then. he wouldn't of cared.

Some laws there's just no accounting for.

I think we had this discussion here some years ago. In Oregon (where I once lived), you have to carry a state-issued hunting license to gather mushrooms. If the game warden catches you with psychotropic mushrooms, you will be arrested and could go to prison. If you are caught with poisonous mushrooms, they simply confiscate them.

There is no punitive penalty for gathering the ones that could kill you. But if you gather the ones that'll make you see G-d, they'll send you to the pokey.

What rocket scientist dreams this crap up?

IMHO - Pot smokers aren't 'violent', they get hungry and then forget what they were mad at :weedman:
