Pipe dream. Let's give the oil companies what they've been begging for for years, access to more money, then expect them to give it up again willingly at some unforseen point in the future. Good luck with that.

It's all about Obama's exausted political capital. He's pressured many leglislators to vote for a convoluted health bill (so what's Student Loans got to do with Health - for example ?). Their constituients are unhappy and it'll be difficult to introduce a bill to Tax energy - so it's all about getting a 60 vote coalition to price carbon...

http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/677-e2 ... lling-plan

Watch any such bill closely, since there is some desperation to also pass ammnesty for illegal aliens, universal voting regristration (including felons), gun control, etc. Who can guess what else will be buried in any new bills - after all as Pelosi said about the health bill - "You'll have to vote for it to see what it says...".

Meanwhile the Fed 'owns' over 60% of Utah - including mineral rich Federal Parks that Utah wants to mine... Utah is starting legal issues about this even now.

Yep. The rabid supporters on either side rarely read all the earmarks stuck in bills, if they even know such a thing exists. Every legislator in the capitol adds their pet projects to a bill that has absolutely nothing to do with what they want, in hopes that it gets passed. I guess it's better than 500 new bills a week.........

so, now we got this huge greasy bunch of oil floating in the gulf, no way to stop it from continuing its deluge... maybe it is time to start trying to make a change?

The oil spill in the Gulf is a disaster. If this had happened in ANWAR (or Utah) it would be much easier to stop - above ground...

That oil must be abundant and under some good pressure.

Now watch as BP blames contractors who blame equipment makers.

I think that BP is doing all they can to address this serious problem.

I also think that this problem got a very slow response from the Fed, why did it take 7 days to even have the Fed recognize the problem ?
Personally, I think that there are some who LIKE the problem, since it is 'bad press' for oil use. Nobody remembers the 'good old days' when lamps uses Whale Oil... Petrol is a lot more humane than Whaling (one could argue about 'renewable' resource - of whales)...

Burning the oil at first sounded like a good idea - but what if burning oil reaches shore ?
