these days, all harddrives have a seperate section with blank sectors to do silent repairs of bad sectors. That extra space has been filled on your harddrive, clearly marking it is on the way to harddisk heaven. So if you have any other storage device to hold those files, transfer them now and don't store anything critical on this disk...
