The Last drop

Post by AmEv »

Have you ever been in the situation where you are trying to get those last few drops out of a ketchup/mayo/salad dressing/whatever bottle?

A common human habit is to slap the bottom of the bottle with the thought that it will make it come out faster.
Can't remember where I saw it, but some guys proved that if you just be patient, the drops will fall to the top (bottom when it's upside-down) of the bottle.

I got to messing around, and I started whacking the bottle... The lid of the bottle to the counter.
I was surprised at how fast it was flowing out. I'm sure you would too.

You gotta be careful, though. One thing that could happen is the lid pop open at the last second, leaving you empty-bottled and ketchup-covered. (So keep that lid tight!) Another (which hasn't happened yet) is whacking so hard you break the lid off.
I'm gonna get my new hardware. And my worklog here.

Slapping the bottom only forces the mass in that direction! Slapping the closed cap would cause the mass to move that way.
For those last bits, doesn't hurt to add a tablespoon of water to the bottle. Shake thoroughly, and you should get the last dredges.
If the bottle was in the cooler, good idea to open the cap, squeeze some air out first and reseal.. or you may get a real dousing!

Store it on it's side (mass accumulates to move uniformly), then when it gets too low to flow - store it upside down (I like to put the 'empty' ketchup unside down over a 'new' one - patience - check back in an hour, it's gone and the new one's very full).

And for bars of soap - when one gets thin (and slimy, soaked through), just rub it firmly onto a new bar...it'll stick and allow you to use 100%.

I use a butter knife to scoop out the last bit of ketchup. Messy, but no waiting. :P

Soap I just keep piling up until it's a half dozen slivers thick, it pretty much glues itself together without my help.

Just don't drop the bottle on the cat as your date/spouse comes in the door

Ah, see, my cat learned a long time ago what a clumsy idiot I can be. The dog, on the other hand, seems to like getting food dropped on his head.
