Force Upgrade Intel D865GVHZ Board in Emachine OR change ID

OK folks...I've been racking my brain, and I'm thinking my only option at this point is to hexedit the intel bio image to get this to change...Anyone have another idea?

I have a Emachine T3882 System...Attached is the CPU-Z report.
The DMI shows Gateway, but the actual motherboard (even the print onboard) shows no sign of anything other than a pure intel board.

I have tried all three intel bios update methods (win,dos,emergency bio) and the closest i got is with the emergency bio that reads the file off of the cd and shuts down, but when restarting, the bios is only reset and not updated.

I've heard that gateway cripples the intel emergency bio update, but i'm not sure (it doesn't work the way it should).

I would love to have a way to change the mobo bios id to update to the pure intel mobo bios. I would see this as my best option.

I'm not worried about any windows oem bios activation values, I don't use onboard sound or onboard video.

Anyone know the best solution for my issue?

Replacing OEM bioses with genuine Intel retail ones is no 100% surefire match. In this case it seems possible but you need to use the floppy drive. Yes, I know it is old but for the recovery method it is the best option. 2nd posting here explains what to do. ymmv...

Tried the instructions on the intel site for emergency bios restore...(cd version and it didn't work). Tried to create a floppy disk directly from the intel dos bios setup, didn't work.

Finally, what worked...(after a lot of trial and error)
I created a floppy of the intel bios dos version, burned it to a cd (floppy emulation)...booted with the cd...formatted a real floppy under the freedos of the intel boot cd (intel bios must like the freedos format a bit better?). Copied the .BIO file from the CD to the floppy... Removed the jumper...ran the emergency bios restore using just the floppy...4 repeating pc beeps in low to high tone order... restarted...immediately entered bios, DISABLED BUILT IN NIC (otherwise will lock)...if the nic is not disabled the system will not restart a second time! So with future intel bios updates I will have to remember to disable the onboard NIC IMMEDIATELY...If the system does try to boot with the NIC not disabled, you have to shut the system down completely, remove the battery, insert the battery, boot and disable the NIC...

I already had a higher end NIC, VIDEO, and SOUND, so I ended up disabling most of the onboard built in's. There are a ton of options that pop up in the bios after the update. And it will allow me to update my processor as well. Finally, I can tell emachines to suck off with their antique driver options (that never included a bios update)!

a side effect of the upgrade is that the fan speeds are stuck at max for the processor and case. I found a forum somewhere online that said it had to do with the fan connections are switched differently in the different bios versions. I'm attempting to utilize a utility like speedfan, motherboard monitor or Core Temp to figure out if i have to buy super quite fans or not...any other suggestions?

Speedfan and the like are not likely to work, as they don't support the proprietary sensors built into OEM boards, only the dead-stock Winbond chips. You can certainly try, but I really don't think they'll work at all at best, or lock up the system completely at worst. Just curious, why do you want to use a BIOS that doesn't work properly?

More options in the bios settings. To what extent they actually can be used remains to be seen though.

the ratio can be adjusted, the processor can be upgraded, the system runs quite a bit faster, the onboard video and the additional video board can be used simultaniously, onboard sound and additional sound board can be run simultaniously, larger hard drives are supposedly supported, the onboard video resolution is now capable of about 4 or 5 times the resolution, the bios is now capable of being updated with retail intel updates (as apposed to being stuck with a 2004 bios)...

all of these benifits and my only problem at this point with it is the fan runs full speed (quite a few options to get around it) and i had to disable the slower onboard nic.

fans can't be adjusted (run full speed) because they are all only 3 pin...I have a few voltage regulators coming from newegg that will allow me to dial down the fan speeds electrically. The stock processor fan seems pretty nice...it runs at about 4600 RPM at full speed and keeps the processor at 47 degrees (cell D precott can run up to 67)...

Do you have the full BIOS string for that system? First video screen, lower left corner, there should be a string of characters. That is the positive ID of the motherboard, BIOS and version/inception date. Post that here for a better chance as to possibly finding a later BIOS update.
Some of those older designs may accept newer CPU types.. but if the controller chips don't have the range for higher FSB speed or CPU type, not a fair chance of success.
