Greetings ladies and gentlemen. My daughter has discovered ***tube. I am trying to block it (for a few hours a day) with the filters in my linksys 54wrt router. The setup seems very straight forword. There are fields for filtering by url or keyword, but it just doesnt' work. I flushed the history and cookies in my browser, (ie7). Anyway, i know its operator error. Thanks for any info.
Thanks. All pcs involved are running xp updated home.

usually this involves setting the router as some sort of proxy server but then again I may be mistaken. Is there a seperate section on this filtering in the manual with examples? Maybe you should try with one specific page first before trying extended filtering with wildcards.

Best way to block a site is to set the Firewall to restrict all access to/from the site IP. Lock the Firewall program with a password, to avoid anyone else undoing the security. Web browsers have site restriction setups. But this is mainly for pop-ups and parental "X" rating control.

could be possible to use the hosts list to get what is wanted??? just add...
www.youtube.com 127.0.0.1

the host file is here...
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

just open the list with notepad, edit it, save it as host1.txt, rename the original hosts to "hosts1", then name your new list to "hosts".

Use hosts file and filter out stupid social networking, etc. Spybot has an excellent pogram fot the really bad stuff, and then you can ed yourself.

Computer Ports List:
Port 25 is the most common for SMT or Simple Mail Transfer. Closing it may not allow access to most Email delivery. Setting the Firewall to block specific site info or IP address would be the most secure, and having an Email scanner active would also be advisable. But putting a total block on certain other ports that are favorable to viral forms can easily be done.

Sorry, Karlsweldt...

It was in the wrong place. I have been scattered lately.
