Don't waste your time, it is far easier to back up, format and reinstall windows - this eradicates all virus activity, gives you a clean slate to start off and generally a far quicker system... Only try to remove it, if you have applications you need with big, big save files....
I say this because I have spent too much time p***ing about trying to remove a virus and in the same space of time, I could have backed up my files to a USB drive, formatted and reinstalled windows, drivers and applications, then put the files back on... _________________ I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.

However it may have a recovery partition (ie gateway, medions, compaqs and some dells do - you have to hit something like ALT and F11 at startup).... If you do try any scanners, always run them in SAFE MODE (press F8 before the windows splash screen)... _________________ I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.

i agree that reformatting might be the best answer in most cases. in this case you either...
need to buy windows, backup and reinstall,
fix the viral problems you have,
OR this seems like a good time to backup and switch to windows 7, yes?
the release candidate is free, and will be allowed to run at least until next march, and possibly all the way to september of 2010, without any hitches. if anything, you get a quicker system with a fresh windows install, plus you get a good amount of time to put together money to buy the new OS when it's released.

I'm running Windows 7 RC. SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com) doesn't work on 7. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware works fine (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php).
Am also using Comodo's Internet Security - Firewall and AntiVirus (http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html).
These are free programs, fully functional.
They work fine, no problems. _________________ "Common sense is not so common." - Voltaire |
