|
|
I have a report due and am trying to get the TOC (table of contents) to do what i want. I never really understood it in Office XP, but 2007 is just confusing.
When i have 3 levels of headers, levels 2 and 3 are indented from the left to the same distance, but it also "out dents" both levels on the right side of the page further than level 1 is. I can manually set the indent tabs on the ruler, but when i update the table it gotes back as it was. I can also set the table to "right justify" but with the same problem. The whole table and the styles are all set to justify, but left and centre also have it messed up.
Ideas? I have a sample file but cant figure how to attach it here. |

Office 2007 For Dummies would be a great help with this.
I use OpenOffice. _________________ "Common sense is not so common." - Voltaire |

To post a file, simply C&P.. or copy the file section you want, then paste in the reply box. Enclose it in a 'quote'.
Here is some help from MS.
You have to set the page format (footers, headers and side spacing) before starting a document. Save as a template for future use. Normal margins are about 3/4" sides, and about 1" top. Could be 2" or less on the bottom.
If you are using the 'standard' template, you have to clear all margins and tabs for indents then form new ones as required. Those rules are still in effect from the original version. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |

| Quote: | Contents
1.0 INTRODUCTION 2
2.0 BACKGROUND RESEARCH 3
2.1 AFFORDABILITY 3
The report should be paginated and should contain a Table of Contents indicating where each section may be found.
1.0 Introduction
The aim of this project is to appraise the current housing market in means of both affordability and sustainability. By determining the state of the current housing market and comparing this with recent years, it will then be possible to put forward recommendations for future strategies.
2.0 Background Research
2.1 Affordability
Annex B of the Government publication “Delivering Affordable Housing” describes affordable housing as a means to provide accommodation for those whose needs are not met by the housing market.

Doesn't work, hence why i said about uploading the file. That way you get the formatting.
Not to sound ungrateful, but the first reply just seems pointless, and the second just tells me what i said didnt work.
Using the tickbox in the TOC wizard i have the pagenumbers aligned right, but they come out wrong, unticking it just puts them at the end of the chapter titles. |

| Solved, When modifing the TOC1,TOC2 etc the format button (bottom left) allows to edit the tabs. Some were set left, others right, and all were different to each other. Dont know why it dfaults to this, but have since changed it. |

That simple strategy about resetting tabs and TOC features may help others with similar problems.
