Fallout 3: PS3 or PC?

Postby Johnny Mnemonic » Sun Sep 28, 2008 3:33 pm

And this doesn't apply to just Fallout 3, but most any game. I've got a PS3 and PC that's not very cutting edge. So I'm seriously looking to buy all my future games on the PS3, and get to enjoy it on the big screen with surround sound, etc. About the only thing I will never get into is First person shooters on the PS3 (unless I find a usb or bluetooth mouse & keyboard setup that works).

Anybody else in the same boat?

There's always problems with ports.. If the game is developed on PS3 and then ported to PC, get the PC version. If they were in development 'separately but equally' then it wouldn't matter as much, but that is rarely the case. Too costly.

But normally I'll play games on the PC that include aiming because I hate using a controller to aim.

I'm a PC gamer. We own a Wii (got it for the kids), and I like some of the games on it, but I've never been a real fan of consoles. So I always buy for the PC.

What are the specs of the PC?

I am also a PC gamer. The last console I owned was the PS2. And that was given to me by a friend who bought the slim version. As most people will tell you here the PC version of a game almost always is a better bet graphically... but you can expect better stability out of the box from a console. With PC games your can get additional patches and content.

I guess my thought on it is this. If you think you'll need to upgrade your system to meet minimum requirements then go console. If you meet minimum requirements then get PC.

Minimum Specs I could find were as follows:

Operating System : XP/Vista
Processor : 2.4ghz processor
Vid Card: X6800 or x850
RAM : 1GB RAM for XP, 2GB for Vista

I am willing to bet a lesser graphics card could handle this game on low settings... but if your gaming machine has less than 1 GB Ram then you are far behind the times anyways. Memory is sooooo cheap now there is no excuse for not upgrading.

Believe me, I've been gaming since the Commodore 64 days, so PC is my preferred platform. But my evga 7650 GT is showing it's age, and my PS3 is not.

Plus 22" monitor vs 60" bigscreen is no contest, especially since computer has headphones and tv has surround sound.

But I definitely agree that aiming with a gamepad/controller sucks. Fallout does have an alternative to that, however.

why not just hook up your pc to the tv and surround sound? it's not really that difficult...

But wouldn't it require a lot more resources to run? eg, video card, psu, ect.

the controls for the inventory management are bulky enough as it is using a mouse/keyboard. i wouldn't want to play FO3 for more than like an hour trying to navigate that crap on a console. they intentionally made it a direct port basically from console to PC and vice-versa....so, the inventory/data/status consoles are a pain to be able to be "easily" used w/ a controller. needless to say, a management system designed around use w/ a controller is not congruent to efficiencies.

PC. hands down.
