Budget folding cluster idea

I like this thing:

Alas there are other projects in and about the house that need fixing first but I expect to build something similar in the long term...

The most amazing is that this machine just cost as a better standard PC, but has 24 cores that run each at 2.4 Ghz, a total of 48GB ram, and just need 400W of power!!

Wow. Any idea what that would cost in USD? Those processors are by no means cheap.

Edit: Looks around the $2700-2800 range with CPU, mobo, and RAM, depending on what else would be needed.

Good...lord. More power to em if they have the budget to purchase and operate that crazy rig. Glad they decided to put it to use for folding though :D

Good God... I wish that I haven't of seen that... now I have the burning desire to make that.

One way that he could boost performance by a gigantic amount is to put a decent GPU in each system, and make a GPU-Cluster, with a 8800GT being about $110 on Newegg, and it's capable of a few hundred G-flops... that would be rather interesting indeed.

I would try to cluster together my current systems, but for the time being, my 8-core Mac Pro is more then fast enough. (for now)
People who have gone through Starfleet academy should be taught how to fix everything. Even a Roman aqueduct.
