Problems on new builds...

Postby Divingsoccerplayer » Mon Jul 07, 2008 12:03 am

So I have my new computers for college and I put Folding @ home on them. I couldn't get the SMP to go on either so I stuck with the graphical client. It went on fine and they received their first unit without a problem but they can't get their next WU. They both say "F@H Core download error (#11)"
This is the log file from my PC:

Your Firewall may have a block on the port. Check the noted IP address and port, to ensure it is 'filtered' or 'fully trusted' to the F@H program.

Launch directory: C:\Program Files\Folding@Home

Needs to be in C:\Folding@Home under Vista.

Ok. I've had some other internet connection problems over the past few days with my computer but it has been fixed now...I hope. I added F@H to the allowed list in the firewalls, including windows firewall. It didn't help though. Pete, in order to move the file to its location do I have to uninstall and reinstall it of can I just move it?

You can just move it, but you'll have to edit the shortcut to reflect the new directory.

Is this true for any install? Has F@H console gone that portable? That would be good news indeed, run it from the USB stick on any PC :D

A USB stick works great, makes it easier to use machines without an internet connection, or to send and get new work if your internet connection goes down (providing you have access to another connection)

it does make it easier. Having some issues installing a couple of my old modems in my desktop. But I did remember that I moved some old console Wu's before to my laptop and sent it from my aunt wifi. Just did the same thing last nite. Moved all 4 of my beta consoles, plus my SMP to my lappy. went to aunts house. ran each one sent of old WU's and got new ones. AND IT DOES WORK FOR SMP. Since my lappy is a dual core I was able to run the smp program get a WU the just moved it all back. the strange thing, you cant get a smp wu thru a dial up connection. BUT you can get it thru high speed and move it over to run on another machine. right now its at 42% doneand not problem.

When actually installed, Registry entries will be created. But if the program is formed in its own folder without an install, then it is 'portable' to some extent. My two F@H processes were created, not installed.. and I note this message as each process is started..
No directory settings found in registry. Using current directory...

Each process still works normally. As long as the link for activation is correct, should be no problems.

It still isn't working. My internet has been having trouble though so that could be the culprit (by having trouble with my internet I mean that Vista doesn't let me connect to my network anymore...). I head off to college in a month so I will try their internet. Hopefully it will work...
