having a heck of a time with older enchies, like 3dmark01, 3dmark05, and aquamark3. just can't complete them. is anyone else having issues like this??? msi k9a2 and msi 4850. could it be heat? is there a good monitoring program for this card?
anyone else having these problems?

Those benchmark programs are evolved on high-end systems. Not everyone would have an identical setup, and get the same results. Most benchmarks will run through with no problems.. but if the video card isn't up to the test criteria, then expect failures. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |

@bdub: have you contacted futuremark about support for this top of the line on the edge stuff in their older products?
@Karl: this stuff is very new and may not be supported yet, by all means it should be capable of running the benchmark software. _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

haven't cantacted futuremark. ati doesn't even list the 4800 series in thier downloads for regular radeon drivers, but they do have a "hotfix release" for that series.
aquamark makes it to the very end, then craps out right as it's supposed to give the score with a memory error. 3dmark01 black screens with no recovery in the middle of the test. 3dmark05 loads but sticks on the splashscreen forever. i got nbenchv3 to complete.
the computer seems to run smooth for everything else but benchies, with this rig. i'm just trying to figure out if it's something i put on it, or not.
seems to me catalyst packages now include southridge drivers, so that's all the chipset needs, is this correct? the driver set for the motherboard that i d'ed from msi wouldn't even install, saying there was no compatible hardware, but i was able to manually find the smbus driver out of that driver set. the graphics card didn't come with a cd, or at least i don't see one.
i've installed the latest directx update (march 0 ,
i'm thinking it's just too immature, and this stuff will be worked out with future drivers, or at least that's what i'm hoping.
but i had an issue with a pci-e 1X firewire card that would not work, so i'm not entirely confident that everything is fine.
blast! i just installed 3dmark06, and it also just sits on the splashscreen and ecome unresponsive! what is going on here! i've read reports of people benchmarking with these tests. _________________ my main rig...

If a system's components are newer and perform better than what was prescribed for a benchmark, wouldn't the results be better?
Just a thought.. since Vista uses a newer DX program than XP, possible you need to use a sort of 'compatibility' mode with older programming, for diagnostics tests? Especially if the OS is 64-bit, and the programming is 32-bit?
Found a link noting many results from the 3DMark tests.
And here is a link for Futuremark system recommendations. There is a link at the bottom of the page to see a full list of video cards capable of running the benchmark. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |

thanks for the links... i see the card is not on the list, but i've read about other people posting benchmark results for 3dmark06.
i am running 32-bit xp.
i was able to get through 3dmark01 after doing a hack to make the card's fan run at 65% rather than it's default 27%, so i guess the problem might have been heat there.
but all the newer 3dmarks just load the splash screen then become unresponsive.
i got a benchmark called fur that runs fine.
unfortunately, i no longer have the system, as i built it for a friend. he's not a gamer, but a video editor. everything else seemed to work fine. _________________ my main rig...

My "gamer" has a PNY GeForce (Verto) 6600 AGP 256 Mb video card.. and whenever I run the 3DMark program, all is fine until the "Mother Nature" test starts. Then frame rates drop to 15 or less.. and when the pan comes up to the sunlight, everything goes black. And no more test! Yet the card is listed as capable of the benchmark.
No worry, as I have no problems with the games I play. No upgrade for me, until the crude oil market comes to back to reality! _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |
