| I just built my first system recently and according to a program that came with the motherboard I'm using my CPU is getting pretty warm. The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. Under idle conditions it runs at a pretty steady 42c. However under pretty light loads it gets warm very quickly. Just running a SpyBot S&D scan along with playing music via Winamp it quickly climbed into the mid 60's and gave me a warning that the CPU was too warm. Running a stress test threw a warning 2 out of 3 times. I've even had it go to 72c once. I'm using an Antec case with a 120mm 3 speed fan in the rear and a 120mm fan in the front. I'm using the stock fan/heatsink that came with the processor. Should I look to upgrade to a different CPU fan(recommendations?) or should I be looking at something else? I'm not sure what temps it should be running at. The idle temp isn't what concerns me it's the fact that I'm getting warnings about temp under loads that aren't very heavy. |

I think your case might have cooling issues. See about cleaning up your wire management and freeing airflow. If that doesn't help, try cleaning all your fans. Then, I would look into a new CPU fan, as your PC might just be in a warm room.

Yea I cleaned up that mess of cables I showed you over on NAIOA  I did order a new CPU fan and some arctic 5 thermal compound so I'll see how that works once I get it in. I had no change in temp cleaning up the cables, but atleast everything is neat and organized and doesn't look like a disaster anymore. Doing a spybot scan alone doing nothing else still had the temp go up to and stay at 68c during the entire scan and gave me the temp warning, so hopefully the new fan will drop my temps. |

| Got a new CPU fan in. Dropped my idle from 44c to 32c. And during a simple spybot scan which was running me up to 68c it now stays under 40c. During a stress test it didn't go over 42c. So it looks like I'm good to go now. |

I mention it to be the best cpu cooler maybe at the market, what's a full cooler, I mean with a heatsink and fan included! Being a ready2use cooler, what's easy to assamble.

rohndawson...if you are asking for suggestions on a cooler for your cpu, I would suggest starting your own thread in the Cooling Tips and Tricks section. Also, be sure to include details about your system, most importantly, exactly what cpu you are using; ie, make and model. It's also helpful to know what case you are using and what motherboard; ie, relates to what size cooler you may be able to fit well on your mobo and in your case, etc.

keep an open mind with temp readings...
My E8400 according to onboard Asus utility was running at mid 45 idle.....speedfan utility showed it at 42 idle on one core....
Intels realtemps utility show the cores running at 32 - 34 idle temps....
As long as things seem stable should be ok...as said do a bit of cable management and make sure you have good fans and airflow and all should be well....

| I have a Asus M3A78-T with A.M.D 9950 Black Edition for overclocking and I hardly overclock it except for fun once in a while but noticed my mobo runs in the 40c but processor runs in the mid to upper 50c range but lots of people are having this issue. |
