THESE F***ING SPAMMERS

Postby Wolfy1220 » Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:32 pm

Can we get the admin to set new registrations to admin approval so that all new accounts must be approved before they can post?
Then choose 5 - 10 mods that are already mods and give them the job of approving accounts?
There has been an awful lot of spammers posting links and other crap.
This would bring it to a number much lower than it is now.

This would have been better received if posted in "The Water Cooler" folder.

But, yes, spamming is a problem.. on almost every site. Those people have no better way of expressing their incompetence (and rudeness) than posting filthy images or links, or "billboarding" ads.

Many sites have a policy where new members must first have their posts previewed by a Mod before they appear. It does cause some delays in posting, but makes for a tidier and more user-friendly site.
It is possible there always is a Mod on-line, which should be noted on the main page bottom. Notify a Mod when a spammer's posting is found, so it is removed quickly. If we reply to that posting, it serves notice that the misdeed was recognized.. and it will happen again. If a Mod can quickly delete it and ban the user, then so much the better.. for all.

Currently more than one mod has had his life going into shambles one way or the other, trust me, the issue is discussed right now.

I dont expect anyone to be here 24/7 but with 5 - 10 mods it should be covered pretty well. Especially if these phpbb boards will allow an email notification to be sent to a mod when a new member joins.
I am pretty sure it works that way but I could be wrong.
Believe me I am not angry at anyone just freaking tired of opening a thread and seeing a stupid porn ad.
