okay. i've seen many people mod their hardrive so they have a window on the top..but why, i've it and now i can't find a good place to put it in my lian-li 6089 to show it off. if i just put it in the hardrive bay, you can't even see that its mod'd. any suggestions? _________________ If knowledge is outlawed, then only outlaws will have knowledge. |

Really the only thing I can think of would be to either have it attached to the side panel with a hole cut in the panel to show it off, or have a window for a side panel and then just attach it so that it could be seen.
I personally will not try this hard drive mod until my drives are out of warranty. _________________ The Gift of Healing

yeah, i'm probably only going to do it on an old 5 gig hardrive. do you if you mount the HD on its side, and then dremel off the right side panel of the HD mounting bracket? would that be a good idea? i'm trying to think of some things. _________________ If knowledge is outlawed, then only outlaws will have knowledge. |

I actually just did this mod. I had an old 20GB hard drive that I dedicated for just my swap space (approx 1GB). I mounted it so the top of the drive is facing out the side window in my case. I must say it's pretty sweet to see the read/write heads go crazy when the drive is active.
Plus it's a good way to see when my swap file is being used.

wow, thanks for the link. that should definatly help. how did he get those two hard drives to sit so nicely on the side of his case next to the window? only place i could think of putting the HD is in the bracket given, and cutting off the side of that bracket and mounting the HD's on their side like the picture. It looks like the HD are mounted on the window in that picture? _________________ If knowledge is outlawed, then only outlaws will have knowledge. |

Yeah, that's what I did too. I figured the easiest way to go was to mount the drive to the window. It involves a little creativitiy, but since plexiglass is easy to cut and drill through, you can make a nice little mount with little effort.
Plus you can always replace the window if you screw up as plexiglass is only 3$-5$ per sheet. _________________ --Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggy" until you can find a rock. |
