how do i get software to monitor and overclock pc?

I read through the 101 post above, but the links to the software it recommended were dead. i have an older pc i will practice on first to get the "feel", thanks in advance guys.

i would start by reading as many posts in the OVERCLOCKERS ANONAMOUS forum that you can. there is an incredible amount of info on doing what it is your looking to do. be aware though, older hardware typically lacks the options and finesse that you find on newer hardware.

ok i took the plunge and upped my FSB's to 111. it went from a 1.7 ghz socket 478 to a 1.89 Ghz. i tried FSB 117 but then the monitors wouldn't load so i reset the BIOS to the originals and went back to 111. Is there anything i can do to get it higher without the monitors giving out. Maybe I need more RAM ? currently i have 1 gig ddr 400 ram in it, and have another gig in the mail from online retailer. i was plaanning on getting a cpu on ebay maybe a 3.0 or a 3.4 eventually but thought i'd try to up it in the meanwhile.

what can i do to up the FSB higher w/o losing monitor output?

i haave speedfan and at current 111 FSB the cpu is remaining around 28 degrees or less. when it intensified i've seen it get up to 38, and that after a few minutes when i opened everything at the same time, but it didn't go higher.
