Water cooling recommindations needed

Postby j.a. » Sat Jul 01, 2006 2:47 pm

Hi all,

I have been thinking of doing a water cooling set up for my comp. specs are in sig.
I have plenty of fans in the case and they work well, but i gets pretty loud when i have them set at high.
I have been shopping around but have not found an ideal setup for my system, would love to hear what you think.
I want to be able to cool the cpu, both vid cards, and the chipset, at least.
External mouting is fine.
I am willing to spend a bit of cash on this if that helps, and a pre made set would be prefered but willing to buy extra parts if needed.
My room temps often reach 30c and sometimes above. (it might be better to get an air conditoner for the computer room, lol).

Thanks, ja

just how many fans do you have in your case? and are they all just the 80's that the case came with or not. have you made any mods to the case?

Thanks for the reply,

These are the fans I have in addition to cpu, chipset, etc.
I have 2 out the back, 2 in the front, on a fan controller. 80mm
One in the side door. 80mm
My psu also has 2 out fans.
The mobo has 2 smaller fans that draw heat out the back from the mosfets.
No mods to the case.

The temps i get for the cpu, system, etc. are not out of line for the room temp. about 10- 15c higher. I guess the main reason im thinking of it other than the fun factor is the sound.

The comp. I made for my girl is a good bit quieter, sonata case with 2 120mm fans. But if I could I would like even less db.

Thanks again, ja.

Depends. Are you willing to modify the case, and what's the budget?

I would be willing to modify the case if need be (metal worker by trade).

As far as budget goes, I would be willing to spend a few hundred on it, say up to $500, a bit more if it seemed worth it. I figure it will last through a few upgrades with a bit of modification.

Thanks, ja.

If you use a setup like the Coolermaster aquagate, no case mods are needed... The noisiest fan in the PC these days is usually the PSU... Get a PSU with a 120mm single fan, that is about the best you can do.. Fanless PSU's have a high failure rate and are very expensive for what they are...
