|

http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hardware/1546_1.html
ATI has always had the lion?s share of market when it comes to home multimedia VGA cards and the new AIW PCIx X800XL continues in that trend. It has all the features that made the All-In-Wonder brand the choice of millions of consumers with a few added twists for more appeal. _________________ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted - Albert Einstien |

Very good review, but it would have been nice to see an 850XTPE included especially since the 7800GTX is there.
Also, can someone explain what happened with the 6800GT in the Gun Metel Demo benchmarks? Its nice to see nVIDIA having weaknesses |

We've said it before, and we'll say it again. We don't choose what cards we get. Talk to Sapphire or ATI themselves and get us one to use very frequently. Apparently, an X800XL AIW was sent, so that's what we get. _________________

Sabre, clearly if you don't have every single high-end card made by ATI to compare to nVidia this site is pandering to nVidia and is totally biased and fanboy run. DUH!
As far as I know, the 6800GT just doesn't run Gun Metal benchmarks, but apparantly the X800XL doesn't even run Aquamark benchmarks which are way more mainstream. |

1.No X850XT PE or x850XT or X850 Pro for that matter here. I wish I had the cards, but am not going to go on a purchasing spree. Here's the lowest prices on Pricewatch for ATI's announced >$230 USD cards.
X850XT PE: 449
X850XT: 369
X850 Pro: 254
x800XL 512MB 383
x800XL 256MB: 238
That's just ATI's >240$ USD PCI Express current lineup of cards. If I addded every flavor of X800 in there it would be ridiculous. Then imagine if I had to buy every high-end NVIDIA card (and one model of each only not 3 or 4 manufacturers of each)
7800GTX 468
7800GT 352
6800GT 285
2. Gunmetal Benchmark fails on every 6800GT I've tried it on (XFX, Asus, NVIDIA reference cards, Gigabyte). Aquamark gave an access error the three times I tried it on the AIW X800XL. Formatted, tried 2 different Cats (5.7 on the driver CD and 5.8 on ATI's site), tried it with CCC and with the Control Panel, to no avail) |

Ben thank you for an informed response I do agree the line must be drawn somewhere with regards to purchasing. Its interesting to learn about the benchmark problems too. |

I actually hate the idea of ATI's and NVIDIA's lineups at the moment. Consider: http://www.pricewatch.com/m-37.htm
Without looking at the subcategories or older cards, just count the amount of variations of x800/6800 listed. NOTE NV is no less guilty, as the 6600 has a slew of variants competing against ATI's cards, but I'm just listing 6800 announced variants to make a point:
6800
6800XT
6800GT
6800GE
6800LE
6800Ultra
7800GT
7800GTX
x800
X800XL
X800SE
X800Pro
X800GT
X800XT
X800XT PE
AIW X800XT
AIW X800GT
AIW X800XT PE
x850 Pro
X850XT
X850XT PE
Now next gen we already have indicators of
x1800XT 600
x1800XL 499
x1800 Pro 449
X1800LE 399
and NV is launching
7800 to go along with 7800GTX and GT.
NOW imagine, 10 card manufacturers make the cards....
BTW, I'm deliberately leaving X1600, 7600, x1300, 7200 out of the picture |
