Search engine, ignores 8500

Postby Johnny Mnemonic » Thu Aug 22, 2002 7:14 am

When searching the posts here for info on the Radeon 8500, the search engine ignores "8500" in the search string.

Tried all settings, nothing triggered it.

i.e.
Search for "8500" no posts found in any forum
Search for "Radeon 8500" and plenty of posts found, but only if they contained the word Radeon.

I'm looking at the search function code(functions_search.php in the include folder), it looks like it removes numbers and odd characters(like $,^, and &) along with changing other things(like "it's" to "its").

I'll monkey with the code a bit and check at the PHPBB forums.

[edit] Found this in the FAQ:
By default words must contain at least three characters but no more than 25, they must be either alpha or combinations of alpha and numerals (numbers alone are not stored). In addition all non-alphanumeric characters are removed, eg. _, +, -, etc. This is standard practice for fulltext search solutions.
I'm working on it.[/edit]

Yep, "128MB" comes up with a few hits, but 128 does not....
