It would be helpful for us newbies (i.e. the ones who come wondering "what's mobo mean? Oh, a motherboard, huhH What's that?")

Terms that I have wondered about have included

RAID
legacy products
DDR
overclocking

or .... maybe this already exists and I just haven't tripped over it yet...

DDR - Double Data Rate - Data is transfered twices as quickly. Instead of doubling the actual clock rate DDR memory transfers twice per tranfer cycle.

RAID - Redundent Array of Independent or inexpensive Disks - most often found on server side applications

Overclocloking - A process of running a processor at a speed faster then the officially specified speed by using a higher clock multiplier or faster bus speed.

Legecy products - Older computer producter that no longer have support.

Thanks, Toby. WHat do you think about the idea of a glossary of terms? Seems like you've got a fair start on one right there.

Although some may find that helpful Johnny; What jackdav is looking for is a simplified glossary of basic terms (or at least to start)....

"Use the search option and you will always find more than you want to see...."

Exactly!
Though you put it better than I would have.
Motherboards.org is a terrific resource and I wouldn't complain about a thing. Ever. But since suggestions are solicited, I thought a glossary might be a good way for a newcomer to find out what they want to without having to wade through a bunch of other terms they don't understand first. Things that I have learned about already but had to dig out (and may still have the wrong idea about?) .... like FSB .... striping ....... benchmark ... form factor ...... chipset ..... cache ...... clock rate .......... architecture ... SCSI .... how to pronounce SCSI ....... I/O .......... BIOS ..... CMOS .... etc etc.

The things that I think might make it a bad idea are the size of the undertaking (there are a lot of terms!) and the possibility of folks differing on definitions .... but then again, that could be fun.

This would be a major under taking but it is a very wise suggestion (I am going to PM a few of the necessary people whom have control of this site so we can get working on a detailed glossary.....Its gonna be a time consuming project, but it will be worth it if it helps people out.
