DSL and Networking..

Postby marc633 » Wed May 22, 2002 1:51 pm

Well, my phone company has finally decided to upgrade my area.. so I'll have the option to switch to DSL sometime this fall. I, ofcourse intend on going with it.

I'm just not sure how I should go about doing this, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying Linksys stuff from the other posts I've read that sorta relate to this. Just not sure if I should go wired or wireless. Is there a noticable dropoff in speed when using wireless? Just as good? I might end up having to go wireless just because there are currently 2 computers in this house and both on are totally seprate ends of it and seprate floors.. I just don't want to lose a lot of speed, it will be used primarly for gaming etc.. so the quicker the better.

Wireless access is actually faster at 10Mbps (Wireless is between 1Mbps -11Mbps) depending on the quality of the hardware.

Though it might be expensive.
NE2000 NICs are a dime a dozen, and with a cheap hub you could have a network up and running for 50-70 bucks...

Cool Thanks, that solves any problems I thought I might have.. my primary concern was decreased performance.
