Hardware Firewalls Effective?

Postby Aibohphobia » Mon May 20, 2002 10:47 am

I have a dual router/firewall from linksys and was wondering if this is safe enough, or should I also run software firewall programs?

It doesn't hurt....I have 3 on my linksy's and have Zone Alarm on each one....that way if ur pc get infected and tries to access u will get the pop up access yes/no window....
I should add that mine are not networked..each individually hooked to internet...
I also use AdAware to check for spyware...don't know if your familiar with it....great program....AdAware

You also can go to Steve Gibsons site....he has tests you can run on ur system to see if u are secure and more ....1 of the leading authorities on security with great reading.

The Hardware firewalls can be pretty effective, but running Zone Alarm on top of the NAT firewall in the Router can Catch any leaks. Turning the Modem off when not online is a good Idea too.
