Gigabyte 7ixe4, has it got a Bootblock in the bios?

Postby sundace » Sat May 18, 2002 2:24 am

I want to flash my mainboard with a new bios (and selfmade logo).

It has an AMI bios chip..
my question is (before i attemp to change the picture of the manyfactor),
has the bios an bootblock.. so if the update fails, can i boot from a flop
with amibios.rom on it and flash the bios that way?

Gigabyte has the instructions of bootsegment which initiates the floppy on their site. All special bios eeprom and flash chips are different from the regular eeprom and flash chips by the bootsegment which can not be overridden.

Anyway, you may not have enough room in the bios to put in too much codes. The extra room is needed for more computer functions, as people demand more adjustment capability or more automation for PNP purposes?.

my ak31v3.1 has a jumper next to bios chip (on mb) that can be set to block or allow flashing of bios- time to pull out the manual, and open up the case- unless it resides in the bios itself?
[looks like i misread your question- thought it was about not being able to flash/update bios- goodluck w/ logo mod (compare logofile size to be certain it will fit?]
