How can I Configure my Mother Board..?

Postby vinaya20 » Thu May 16, 2002 8:54 am

Dear Friend....

I have an old seagate ST@@% Hard Disk Drive (MFM interface) and Western Digital MFM interface card and 80386sx motherboard.(AMD 386SX)

I want to install my Seagate ST225 (MFM) hard disk on to this machine.
How can I disable IDE (i am using IDE addon card on 16bit ISA) and how can i install MFM card and Hard Disk. along with Floppy disk.
OR please suggest me, which mother board I should use to install this ST225(MFM) hard disk 8088, 80286, 80386 or any other. and how to boot the system using Floppy disk.

Thank you very much

Please visually inspect the hard drive controller cards for all the jumpers.

Disable the corresponding jumpers on either cards; so that the only floppy works on one card and not the other.

The hard drive should be set so only one IDE channel is jumpered on to boot C: and D:. MFM card should be set to the secondary channel for E: and F:. If you don't have any jumpers on MFM ccontroller card then it can only be used for C: and D:. MFM drives are too small for booting into a larger operating system.

Good Luck.
