Ugh. Finally finished my first PC!!!
All Mac computers before. Guess I'm a switcher! :D

Thinking I should have picked a stock case (easier project).

I know, I'm mixin' the two evils. But, I have to have it by the Mac, because somehow during the planning/building I forgot that my network is wireless and didn't put a wireless card in it. So, in order to connect to the internet I have to network to the Mac with a tiny patch cable to share the web. doh!

I used this as an organ donor:
an absolutely worthless PowerComputer Mac Clone

I basically left the drive cage the same. Just chopped it off the front of the Clone and drilled some holes to mount it in the Ammo Can. After I finished I came across some sliding drive mounts that I would love try and mod for this case, but I think it might be too late, since I already have a big hole in the front cut.

For the motherboard plate:
I was planning on using the motherboard plate from the Clone but it was too narrow. I ended up cutting off a chunk of the case. Which actually is better, it has a small "L" with holes to screw to the back of the case and a little channel to slide out for upgrades, etc.

For the template I just laid the motherboard on a sheet of paper and traced the edge and hole locations.
I picked up some aluminum posts (33 cents a piece) from the hardware store that has threads on each end.

I cut almost the entire back out the ammo can off - I bought a piece of plated steel and cut holes for the power supply, i/o shielding panel, and rear fan hole. If I were to do it again I would find a junk PC case that can be used for the back or modded for the PCI cards - my graphics card isn't too secure.

While Dremels are nice, I found my jigsaw with a metal cutting blade works better and faster on big areas. And grab a pop-rivet gun it's easier than using screws - at least for non-showing and non-removable components.
