Whats the recommended Heatsink weight limit for a Northwood socket478. Thinking of getting an aftermarket heatsink but need to know what intel recommends before I choose.

Even though heavier sinks don't usually mater. Just make sure it's tied down nice and tight before trying to move a bigger one though! Also, i think that 500G limit is for the plastic retention frame, not for bolt-thru sinks :D

Called intel they something to the effect of 450g. But you are right that probably applies to the plastic frame. A bolt through should easily superpass that as the mobo itself is made of tougher material. The mobo should withstand a higher bending stress than simply attaching it to the plastic frame.

What is the weight of a motherboard? You could bolt the cooler to the case (no more weight limits) and leave the board floating in the case
We hate rut, but we fear change.
