A cool christmas?

Postby ~Rob » Wed Nov 23, 2005 3:11 pm

For christmas I've asked for a ATi Silencer

Is it still the best option to cool a 9800Pro? The main reason for it is that it blows the heat straight out of the back so my case temps will be less and so hopefully I can get up to 2.5Ghz on the CPU.

But yea, any other suggestions and where is the cheapest place to get it?

I tried using a "Point of View Gun", but my aim was lousy. ;-)

ASUS K8N, AMD Sempron 3100+(1.8ghz), 1gb RAM, eVGA 5500FX 256mb AGP, two WD120gb SATA drives in RAID 0 (striping), 450w power supply.

Fold well, so that others may prosper.

Good point. I haven't checked if www.compusa.com will ship internationally.
But, I do use the product I linked and am satisfied with it. I figure both products will get the job done. It's nice to have options.

We sell these... I am using 3 of those 'Arctic Style' coolers on my 2 9800pros and my 9700pro... One issue with them... dust.. Gather loads on the fan housing... They do work well though... I have put the Evercool setup on my 9800XT and it looks great, but really does work well..... If you do go for the arctic cooler fan unit, get some RAM sinks for the vga RAM..(Mainly for the RAM on the 'back' of the card).....
I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.
I am an apprentice trained Electronics Engineer with qualifications to back it up.
I have been repairing computers since 1996.
Yet to some people I still know nothing...

Yea, might get a bit wet in the process too!!

Anyways, dust isn't an issue as I give the PC a rebuild + clean every 6 months or so. Thanks guys, I'll order it soonish. Should be quite good in helping the temps. Did you notice a drop?

I didn't notice a drop because I installed it when I put my system together. My current CPU temp is 34C/93F, and my motherboard is at 26C/78F. It's doing Folding@Home calculations using 80% of the available CPU resources and 40% of the available 1024mb of RAM. The ambient room temperature is 67 F.

No after market cooling needed for my HIS Excalibur 9800pro. The cooler is the same as the Silencer BUT the Silencer should perform better, HIS cooler is aluminum

The funniest bit is he would probably have to wait for a long time in Russia waiting for the ice to freeze over to alaska.

So Rob did sant deliver a cooler? and do you like it?
I have now left the Building :tongue8:
