Asus P4B w/ P4@1.6 Installing Volcano 7+ (tolemac)

Ok Tolemac,

I picked up the 7+ and some Arctic Silver 3.
Cpu is a 1.6 o/c 1.76
Cpu temp now 61c (running 24/7 two weeks)
Case temp 34c
I am installing a 400w PSU, new case
and another 128m mem
System will be upgraded in the AM.
I'll let you guy's know what my temps
and O/Cing speeds are tomorrow

Intel P4 1.6 Northwood
256m mem (384 soon to be) pc133
Nvidia MX400 W/64m
SB 128 PCI
Maxtor 40g & 20g 7200rpm
HP 9500 cdrw
Generic DvD
Pitstop score 896

Sorry, unexpected cookout. 8 kids + Parents. Lot's of fun

P4 @1.6 Help

Do i have to remove the cover on this cpu?
Everybody talks about putting the hsf directly on the die.

Cover? What cover? If you are referring to the thermal pad that is on the bottom of the heatsink, then yes, it needs to be removed. They are not worth a damn, and besides you are going to be using the Arctic Silver, so the pad is unnecessary. Use some Isopropyl alcohol to loosen it up and then use a flat blade to scape it off.

Go ahead and post the pics, but do it in the Water Cooler forum. We'd love to see 'em! 8)
