Of course, alcohol is a prime cleaner because of its evaporative properties, but ive heard a lot about goof off and how it cleans so well. I myself have used de-solv it (similar to goof-off) and followed up with alcohol. I believe that goof-off and other cleaners dont evaporate, so theres a problem there.
What do you use, and why did you choose that product? Are there any problems with it (i.e. no evaporation)
I think this topic has been posted before but I do as you do. Use goof off and alcohol afterwards to finish cleaning it off. I just find it easier to first clean with goof off because it practicaly disolves all that crap.
A piece of card to scrape followed by meths.... Job done

now you tell me o well
fortunately I have never had any problems, could be because I wipe it with alcohol afterwards
others however seem to use it too
So what do you use?
I use alcohol. I think I originally began using it because it was recommended on the package of Antec Reference silver thermal compound (rebranded ASII). I have continued to use alcohol because it's cheap, it doesn't harm anything, and it works pretty well.
