stupid newbie question

Postby I Zarathustra » Sun Jul 07, 2002 12:04 pm

i looked around and couldnt find an answer to this, but its probably because its so obvious no one needed to ask it, but this is my first computer build and i dont want to screw up.

so the question:
i have an AMD 2200 and a volcano7+, a copper shim and some arctic silver3
i know the arctic silver goes on the cpu die, but does it go on the shim as well?
and am i supposed to completely cover the volcano side and then whipe it off?

also if i have no plans of overclocking (if its even possible on this chip, read that it isnt) how much do i need to worry about fans? I have two plus the volcano and the power supply fan, and was thinking of getting two more

thanks!

Ok the as3 only goes on the die of the cpu not on the shim, only apply a very thin coat of as3 ( like Tolemac says a paper thin coat ). The shim is only a spacer to protect against the chance of cracking the cpu when installing the heatsink and fan. I suggest at least 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan. If you have room to fit 4 then use 2 intake and 2 exhaust. I hope this helps :) .
