Is northbridge cooling essential

Postby jonathanphang » Thu Jul 04, 2002 1:35 am

Hey Peeps

Just a quick one here to ask all you guys if it is totally necessary to have a fan on the north bridge? i have a small fan on it (came with the comp) but it is making a huge high pitch whining sound. Is is safe to disconnect it? its not gonna permanantly damage it is it?

Also, will it make any difference in terms of overclocking?

My system:

gigabyte ga7dx
512 ddr
gf4 4400
athlonxp 1800

Cheers

might want to give gigabyte a call about it- possible that you can get a replacement fan from them.

i thought of that and it doesnt really bother me about contacting them, i can get a replacement easily, i just wanna know if it will be damaging to the northbridge if i DONT have a fan.

I'm sure ive seen NB's without fans so if anyone can gimme an answer....

My GA-7VRXP didn't come with a fan or HS for the NB but the board does have a socket where I can hookup a fan.
