Are these Duron 1.2(no OC) read-outs favorable?

IDLE:
Mainboard: 31C
CPU: 40C

With task running(compressing AC3 and d2v to mpeg)
Mainboard: 36C
CPU: 44C

The read-outs are averaged with the difference of +1 or -1 temp.

definitely, you should o/c that mofo. 36c is a tad-bit high but not bad, depending on your climate..

I have not tried OCing but I would like to try it on this one since the durons are not that heavy on the pocket(if I start frying).

So what would be the best mobo or better still...what's the best "mobo for dummies" I should get? If I would(hoping not) start frying the cpu, is my mobo screwed too? and one more thing...I'm using tt dragon orb and that thing is really ringing in my ear. Is there a good quiet alternative than the orb?

BTW...this is my 4yr old daughter's pc. She uses the Paint, surf nickjr.com and a few gaming. I don't know if that info would help :D

The temps are just a tad higher than my 1 GHz Duron so they seem OK. If you're going to oc, gotta have a great HSF and good case cooling. Recommend a ThermalTake Volcano 6Cu+ and Arctic Silver III thermal grease for that cpu. A Volcano 7+ is probably overkill.

No a cheap mobo will not effect temps. What will effect temps is the lack of or improper cooling. You should have atleast one exhaust fan (high in the back of the case - blowing out) and no I am not talking about the power supply fan. And at least one intake fan set low in the front of the case.

Things to remember:
heat rises
cold air sinks
use the same size fans - you will not help anything by having 2 different size fans.
