Bitten off more than I can swallow...

I bought this;

modding

plus some UV sleeving for my puter. Why not, I thought - I've got this nice new case with a side window...
Getting the female molex pins OUT is a breeze. Getting them back into the new molex ends isn't. For one thing, they already have pins in. For another, they're a lot shorter so even if I push the pins into the pins which will just about work I have a lot of bare metal showing. I have what appear to be a lot of little cover thingies, but how they fit on is beyond me.

As for how the tool to get the ATX / 12V blocks off, well...

Can anyone point me at a site that gives idiot proof instructions? Or talk me through it??

Any brand name on the kit? Any model or kit number? Maybe if we find out who made the stuff they may have an online presence on the net and (who knows) an instruction set.

Squat. However, I've done a bit of looking;

http://gruntville.com/howtos/psu_sleeve/index.php

and worked out how to use the ATX pin remover, so that's done. Also best way of sleeving. I think the actual female molexes are those ones which you push the bare wires onto a cutting edge [like telephone sockets]. However, the set of molexes I had to buy because I'd lost the removing tool [take to long to explain] are also UV reactive even if they're black, and there's a lot more of them... so I may use them for this one. Lot easier!

Ludum sodorum legionarum.

I think I've dropped a stitch somewhere with the HDD connectors. Need OH and his test meter [or rather, my test meter, 'cos he nicked it a few weeks ago when his died and hasn't given me it back yet...]. Trying to trace them back through the cladding and it ain't easy.

How critical is the order of the black [ground?] wires for the molex?
You have
Y Bk Bk R
Does it actually matter which way round the blacks go??

Thanks so much for that. But if anything the sleeving's the easy bit! It's keeping these stupid wires straight that's doing my nut.

Well, so far so good. I'm just waiting for the right kind of UV light [my fault!] and some extra cladding. I had to test and rewire some of the molexes, and it wasn't helped by the fact that my FDD had died - I wasted a lot of time trying to rewire the connector before I thought to try with another drive :oops:

My only minor beef is this;
The speaker and mike connectors from the front have mini-jacks on instead of the pin connectors. I presume they're supposed to pass through the back of the case and plug into the sound module instead of the audio header on the mobo. Is there anything I can do about that? Can I rewire them / get the sound connector and put it on instead?
