UV Lights

Postby mole2704 » Wed Feb 01, 2006 8:00 am

Couldn't think this would go in anyother forum but for reccomendations, but here we go.

I want to UV light the inside of my case, but am unsure as to how many/much light I need. I have a 'standard' size ATX case, but have size lights that are 4" and 12". So I wonder if I have two 4" will it light the case? I know that it is suggested to get two, top and bottom, but dont want to really have to go for the buy and error option. :)

which lights are you looking at? different manufacturers make brighter and dimmer lights.

also, what kind of prices are these around?

do you have links to the lights you're thinking about?

I use a couple to light my X-Connect's cables. Looks pretty sweet. I use a 4" at the bottom and a 12" at the top. Both run by the same inverter.

One piece of caution, though. Don't let them run when you're not there:

I did use 4" ccfl before but dropped using them. I burnt two pairs of dual 4" already. I say go with 12 inchers :o If you're using LED fans in your case... use one 12" and if everything inside your case are UV reactive without LED lights... use dual 12".

Get MDMM's Techie Toyz, their dual 12" ccfl are very well constructed (I own a set). On cheap ccfls, the ccfl itself easily slides out of the tube. You can get Techie Toyz at your local CompUSA.

Don't buy cheappos!

hadn't really looked into the 'what type' as thought they were relativly the same forbrightness, but differd in the quality of the colour. I already have a couple of 12" green to light the case.

I also have an x-connect psu and want to light the cables, but have taken an idea that both i had and tribaloverkill has put into practice on project blackout. I have tinted the side window and want to used the lights to highlight the components.

As for prices, so far they were all under £10 each. Soz but am in the UK.

Just read it, I used to have one that didn't have a casing to it, so i just wrapped it in insulation tape and stuck it to the underside of my hdd cage(metal), pretty mark has been left on the metal when it burned through.

Have also got 2 set in one transformer, and that also has burned, but still works when only one is plugged in, so will have to fine a spare one for the other light.

I WILL be carefull with the UV ones
