I paid about $1580 not covering shipping costs for everything. So that's about $1600 for everything. I already had another license for XP pro. Originally it was only gonna cost around $1200, but I ended up using a retail CPU, retail hard drive (so that I could get a three year warranty), and I added bluetooth and the dvd burner. The dvd burner on this Asus has a different faceplate from all the rest, it is required to get this one in order to have a perfect fit.

Do you have a 64mb X700 or 128?

I did consider getting a dv4000 since it is a great machine, but I didnt really want the giant battery sticking out and I was concerned about build quality. I also wanted to build my own.

You got a great deal though.

Well, you should take a look at the Asus Ensemble units. They are the best looking laptops I've ever seen. Most of them have brushed aluminum lids and the top of the line W2V is made out of lian-li quality black brushed aluminum.

It's pretty sad news, but since Asus is now beginning to get a good share in the notebook market, they are going big and high class, and they arent going to be offering good looking cases anymore in the future for their barebone whitebook market. Hope they dont make them all ugly.

All of the best looking ones are going to be in their Asus Ensemble line.

Cause I want to get a motorcycle. :P I've been getting offers for the laptop, but no one has enough to pay full upfront, so I might just settle for an older bike.

I'm gonna close it soon. :?

So, refresh my memory, what site did you order the Asus from? I wanna check out that seller's site, maybe make my own later on if they have some good stuff!

Got the barebone from www.geared2play.com

It can be bought from www.istnc.com and www.proportable.com too.

All three are great dealers. Customer support is top notch at all three.
