Lights= Heat?

Postby greenfreak » Fri Jul 18, 2003 3:52 pm

I have been thinking about adding a light or two to my system, I am just concerned about the heat factor, lights produce heat right?
I know they sell the cold cathode lights, are these actually cold?
Kind of new to the mod scene, bear with me... :oops:

Cold Cathode Flouresent lights produce very little heat, which will not affect your system (They are the modders choice right now). Neither will LED's (Light Emitting Diodes), the litttle colored lights in every piece of electronics out there. You don't want to stick a standard light in your case, obviously, but most products out there will work.

Don't forget to have plenty of power to supply those extra lights as well. Many don't use much, but it adds up fast.

I have a 400W Sparkle Power Supply, and it is enough to power 2 HDD, 2 IDE Devices, 1 Floppy, 4 Fans (2 LED ones), 1 CCFL, and everything else. If you really go over the edge you may wants something bigger, but 400W is usually good.

Cool, thanks for the advise, I figured that was the case, I have an antec case, which came with the 430W PS I think, I have 4 fans running right now, I was thinking of getting another one for the side, probably an LED fan, I'm not ready for the allout mod thing yet, maybe in a few months. :)

Of all the CCFL's i've evenr seen and used, only a vantec 12 inch uv would get warm to the touch, but, if put in the path of airflow (along with the inverter) it would be rather cool.
