Where to drill the hole

Postby joeskeeter » Fri Feb 14, 2003 1:28 am

Just got a hole saw to drill my case for a 80mm fan.
I was going to put the fan on the side of the case to blow cool air into the computer and onto the cpu.
Should I drill the hole so that the fan will be over top of the cpu?
Will the air blowing in be disruptive to the heatsink fan?
I still can't believe I spent $26 on a hole saw for a $27 case!

It depends on your CPU Fan. If your CPU Fan sucks (blows air into the heat sink), then a side case fan blowing cool air into the fan would be a good thing. If your CPU fan is pulls air up and away from the heat sink, then blowing air right back ontop of the heat sink sounds a little counterproductive, but it would still get fresh air.

Good thing is, wherever you drill, you can always reverse the fan to suck or blow. So now your choices are two fold... :)
