Up-front firewire

Postby vagueboy » Wed Oct 30, 2002 10:18 am

I'd like to run a firewire cable from my internal DV card to the panel I have up front on my case. The panel is built in, not one that fits in a bay, which means that its really cramped. Can I run a regular cable up to the panel or do I need a special low-clearance cable?

Exactly how cramped is it?

There's approximately 3/4" to 1" clearance between the plastic front panel where the USB/firewire/audio knockouts are and the actual case that the panel is attached to. The case (a Raidmax) came with the front USB installed, and the cable looks like it's specialized. The wire goes off at a 90 degree angle to the plug rather than straight back which allows it to plug in.

If a regular old firewire cable would fit the bill then fine, but I don't think it will because it looks like it takes something designed specifically for that purpose.
