How Fast Is My Memory?

Postby Karlsweldt » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:13 am

Reference chart for standard memory bus speeds:
The older 30-pin memory modules are considered obslolete. The 72-pin DIMMS are still used, but older PC-66 and later models are considered obsolete. A PC-100 can sub for a PC-66, as can a PC-133 sub for lower speeds. Not all modules are backward-compatible. Older memory types are still available, if searching the right source. There may be a voltage difference between older DIMMS and newer ones. Newer models use a lower voltage.

Standard memory speed configurations:
FPM SIMM..60ns@22 Mhz, 1 cycle per clock.. bus width 8 bytes, bus speed 22 Mhz, transfer rate 177 MB/s
EDO SIMM..60ns@33 Mhz, 1 cycle per clock.. bus width 8 bytes, bus speed 33 Mhz, transfer rate 266 MB/s
PC66 DIMM..10ns@66 Mhz, 1 cycle per clock.. bus width 8 bytes, bus speed 66 Mhz, transfer rate 533 MB/s
PC100 DIMM..08ns@100 Mhz, 1 cycle per clock.. bus width 8 bytes, bus speed 100 Mhz, transfer rate 800 MB/s

That's VERY handy. I'm forever having to frantically look up the equivalents.

Let there be respect for the earth,
Peace for its people,
Love in our lives,
Delight in the good,
Forgiveness for past wrongs,
And from now on a new start.
