Overclocking with 3800x2

Postby Ben » Tue Aug 22, 2006 6:35 am

Hi,

I have got a Shuttle SN25P (NF4 Ultra) with a 3800x2 and 2x1gb corsair twinx ddr400 cl2

Here are a couple of screenshots of my settings (defaults):

I have only ever overclocked a P4 2.4 before, and I only changed the FSB and the voltage a little.

I think my memory is alright for overclocking, but I don't know exactly what to do. Any ideas would be very helpful!

Thanks!

x2's are lot more trickier to overlcok since u have two cores instead of one. I know wiht my asus baord I used Asus Probe since it could get measure both cores.

Yeah I've heard it's harder with x2s. Any ideas on what to do? I'm pretty clueless, to be honest.

Done the following:

Set HT to 3x
Set FSB to 240mhz
Set RAM to 166mhz
Set timings at 2-3-2-5

All voltages are default. Looking at Sisoft sandra benchmarks, my system now beats the 4800x2 (just) on CPU arithmetic.

See pics below. I would appreciate any advice. Idle temps are around 41.

Ben, you should increase your HT to 4x. HT x FSB should be as close to 1000 as you can get without going over. Why did you you set your memory to 166? Were you having memory problems? RAM frequency and FSB should run as close as possible to a 1:1 ratio. You might want to raise your memory divider to 333, run memtest and see if you get errors. You can always lower your memory divder if you have problems.

I increased the HT to 4x and the got the FSB and RAM around 233 but the system locked up. Couldnt even get into the BIOS so it was handy theres a CMOS reset on the back of the shuttle.

Maybe the memory timings were too quick? Its only DDR400 btw.

The setup I had going at HT 3x seemed to be doing ok. What should be my next move?
