Conroe already clocked to 4.66ghz!!

Postby Sabrewings » Thu Jun 01, 2006 1:11 am

Astounding. Simply, astounding. And at a better clock per clock efficiency than any AMD CPU. I have no words... 8O

11.297s in SuperPi to 1M places... 63K+ in 3DMark2001SE... 31k+ in 3DMark03... 13k+ in 3DMark 05... Image

I hope AMD has something up their sleeve because if the architecture can already scale to 4+ghz when its stock is 2.66ghz (hell, not even released yet), AM2 is likely to be left in the dust.

Those conroe looks real promising. If AMD doesn't keep up, I'd go for Intel on my next upgrade :D

AM2 (5000+) can also be overclocked - this link has stats on a test...

For best results some screaming fast DDR2 is helpful...

PCStats.com wrote:Continuing up towards 223 MHz, the X2 5000+ processor again started to become unstable, and sure enough we noticed 3D benchmarks crashing back to desktop and the odd blue screen every now and then. Increasing the CPU voltage to 1.4125V (the Asus M2N32SLI-DLX motherboard's max value) solved this and allowed the Athlon64 X2 5000+ to overclock just a tiny bit further.

In the end, the socket AM2 AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ processor maxed out with an overclocked frequency of 2.92 GHz, or 225 MHz motherboard reference clock speed. We tried a few settings above this, but stability could not be guaranteed. The Athlon64 X2 5000+ didn't quite make the magical 3.0 GHz frequency, but it's still plenty fast!

That's from the first article, and the second article goes up to 2.8ghz. How does this even compare??? Already Conroe achieves more per cycle than either of those CPUs and it's maxing out consistently above 4ghz. Mostly stock voltage as well.

No, read through the thread. Both are enabled. If you disable one, you can get 5+ghz.

Gem wrote:All looks good, but again, is the Conroe available to purchase yet? I am sure AMD has a processor that can hit 8 Ghz overclocked as well. It is just not available to purchase yet.

These were early engineering sample released for review. The same thing for when the A64 came out we saw some interesting overclocks, but nothing like this. As the CPU stepping improves, we can only expect to see higher clocks from these incredible cores. :D

And the A64 has trouble squeezing past 3.6ghz without sub-zero expensive cooling. 4.66ghz was achieved on the Conroe with a self contained water cooling setup.
