The pencil trick - Bamboozled!

Postby Nishko » Tue Jun 25, 2002 1:22 am

Dear readers,

I read with interest about the pencil trick for AMD processors, and with much enthusiasm decided to give it a try. I have an Asus A7M266 board and an AMD 1.4 (266fsb) CPU.

In my bios settings the multipliers are of course greyed out, BUT when I looked at the L1 bridges on the CPU, they have NOT been cut, I mean they are intact as supplied..... I don't understand what's going on!!!

I also noticed that one or two of the others such as L2, L3 L4 have been cut, and some left alone.

Any explanations gratefully received.

The cut is not very noticable, but it is there. Trust The Doc, it works. I have done it. BTW, the CPU multiplier settings are probably set to auto. Change that and do the pencil trick and you are on your way.

No seriously, the cuts are NOT there! I have even inspected it with a very high magnification lens.... Also, bios is set to manual and is jumperless.
