A new record!

Postby Oylpann » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:48 am

I know this is somewhat of a double post since I originally posted it in the Folding topic but I wanted to post it here too since I find it somewhat amusing.

I'm cleaning up my wives friends computer for him in exchange for getting him to fold. I burned MS Anti-Spyware and AVG to disc and copied them over to his pc. Without even updating the definitions for either program, this is what it found so far:

Spyware Threats Detected: 81
Files Infected: 360
Registry Keys Infected: 4153 8O

That was approx half of the total registry keys that were scanned.
I havent run AVG yet.. I think I'll hold off until i can get the definitions updated first

Its about time to hook the beast up to the internet, get the new definitions for avg and ms anti and its back to scanning again.

Just thought I would share for a good laugh.

your wife's 'friend' must be using some interesting sites.........

suggest you use crapcleaner when you're done, get rid of a lot of broken stuff.

WOW. OK, that counts as an official all-time high for me at least and I've seen a few systems...

Cant get the dang thing to connect to my broadband even though he uses cox highspeed just like me grr.. Went ahead and started running (non-updated) avg free this morning before heading to work. It found one trojan in the first 10 seconds or so. If I can get the definitions updated I'm sure it would be alot more useful. :?

I think you can download the updates manually on another PC and burn it to CD

With AVG this is very do-able...in fact I've done it a few times.

Sorry to hear it's being such a buggerbutt...But it sounds like it's in good hands..

I actually enjoy it.

I called him today for some info and to give him a status report. I told him I found "a few" spyware programs on it. I wonder if he will notice the "Hot Sexy Babes" icon is missing from his desktop.

I guess I need to burn those definitions to cd and run the virus scan again.

The computer would barely run when I first booted it up. It kept trying to connect to misc sites and such.

I think I'll grab some of the other recommended apps like Hijack This and Ad Aware as well and run some more scans tonight.

The full scan from the MS AntiSpyware took almost 2 hours to run. I'm sure it got a good workout.
