Automatic install of Windows Update this AM (12 Jan, 2004)

1. KB890175
2. KB890830

Had to restart after install. But this is interesting.............My mouse has been jittery the last few days and kinda skipping around. After restart the mouse now behaves like a good little tool instead of a jittery thingee.

It mentions something about a Malicious Code removal tool in KB890830 and just may be it did the trick. Hmmmmmmmm!

Just in case you have a rubber ball type mouse (not a optical mouse), you know the type with the little rubber ball... You should clean the internals of that mouse.

Not saying this is the case but I have seen a dirty mouse skip around and not respond many times because the mouse guides were full of crap.

Often it looks as something is wrong with the system.

Turn the mouse over, unlock the ball holder and remove the rubber ball.

There should be one guide, a thin spinning wheel at an angle, this should be clean.
the other two are the ones that need cleaning, they lie perpendicular and verticle and move the pointer in the same way.

Spin them and look for any gunck built up on them.
If there is then it needs to be removed.

Im not saying this was the issue but have seen it many times trick hardcore viral specialists into thinking they were attacked.

Its actually best to disassemble the mouse completely to clean it or just replace it.

cleaning mice is super simple. Last one I did took less then 5 minutes from start to finish and it was one of the scroll mouses too...

I have a balless mouse now too - but i do miss cleaning out the mechanical one from time to time - somehow quite therapeutic.

In fact, someone gave me a mouse ball cleaner once - like a nobbled ball on a stick. Wack it into the mouse's orifice and twiddle around a bit. All the bits of fluff and black gloopy stuff (what is that?!) falls out. You can almost hear the mouse sigh with pleasure.

maybe I'm getting old........ #-o

Gotta be quick and patent those ideas!!

Unless you work for a company with the clause in the agreement...ya know...the one where you agree to hand over all rights to your patents and possible $$ ideas...

My company has us sign those forms once a year for 'updates'. Really bites...

Come to think of it I mis those old days of cleaning the mouse ball, you just knew when it needed cleaning though

I now use those clean up damp cloths and clean the mouse and keyboard for that therapy thing...

My mouse has no balls, but I specifically ordered the female kind anyway.

On a serious note, dont our "ballless" (how many "L"s does ballless have?) mice need cleaning, Mine has no inner workings that I can get to so Ive never done anything with it.
