ccleaner new version...

Post by bdub »

anybody know how to stop the monitoring agent from showing up in the system tray every time the computer is logged onto. I've turned it off in msconfig, but it always returns.
this is under win7.

Use the 'msconfig' command to see what else causes it to return. Likely a second executable file for the program, like 'show icon' or similarly worded.. The Task Manager has the 'services' tab that shows all. Look at file names in the program directory, see what has an 'exe' tag name.

yeah, I tried all of that. none worked. ccleaner always came back in the system tray at a reboot if you had run ccleaner during the last session. it always re-appeared in msconfig as an active service at startup.
so I checked at piriform website, and noticed that they reverted the latest version that they had available back to 5.44. uninstalled 5.45, dl'd 5.44, installed, and no more problems with being able to turn off system monitoring.

Thanks for the tip on clearing that annoyance.
Have the same problem with a printer program, had to take out 4 'start up' features. But if you use the printer, then the SysTray icon comes back.. and you have to "end task" on it!
Some programs are like circus barkers.. touting beyond real needs.

just an update... ccleaner has a new version now that takes that whole system tray component out of the picture unless you enable "smart cleaning"... so all is good.
