Today the wife got a phone call from a person who said they were a Microsoft Tech and they said someone was trying to get into my computer and to call 1-855-593-7317 or to go on line at support@fixsmita.net When she told me about it I hit the roof. Sounds like a hack attempt to me. We did nothing of what the guy said to do.

Microsoft doesn't care enough about any individual user to call them one-by-one...it's a scam.

They try to get you to provide remote access, after which they typically put in a back-door or install ransomware which will activate weeks/months later.

Re post by Raisinkayrn:
Microsoft®, like 99.9% respected, legitimate companies, will never call and 'suggest" there is a virus or corrupt file on your computer. Any such calls are FRAUDULENT AND JUST A BAIT TO CONFISCATE YOUR PRIVATE INFO, OR INSTALL VIRUS ON YOUR COMPUTER. Don't trust anyone that calls and says so. Cuss them out royally, then hang up!!
