I got this email this morning. Never had Advanced Systemcare. I'm not even gonna visit the web page. If it's legit I don't know how they've got me as a user. After reading around apparently the basic software instals with some toolbar or other and fubars the registry (I don't install toolbars, not even Google)
Anyone got more info?

Iknow this forum is for hardware but I thought this may be the best forum to post this to (the most visitors).

Phone number is fake. They have been targeted before

Please forward this email to them so they can warn their users.

iobit seems to have had some discussion about their products:

Me thinks it's better to stay away from iobit. but that is just my opninion.

I've seen a lot of these type of scans telling my (unwitting) clients that they have some software they need to renew, although I have never seen this one before...

I'm glad you didn't even both to open it.

The one I remember a lot from years past was Network Associates asking for money even though the client was not actually using the real Network Associates. It was a phony.

I actually had one from Ascentive Software a couple of months ago. Typically, I just ignore them, I know what I have and have not put my credit card into (if I can't remember, I check my bank account online, or check for email receipts, which I save for freakin ever), but this one had me worried, as I didn't recall when, if ever, I'd used the software, and the contact info was indeed genuine. Matched the website exactly.

Turned out it was a server error on their part, anyone who had downloaded trial or free software from them in the last year had mistakenly gotten the auto-renewal email meant only for those who had actually purchased. They were very good, and sent out a mass-mail to everybody explaining the issue, and not to worry.

So not a fake but a mishap. Anyway, the end result is their reputation was saved. Good thing you spotted this and took action.

Renewal notification

Postby avangate » Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:20 am

Hi,

Your email address was used in an online order placed in March 2009 through Avangate to purchase a license for Advanced SystemCare PRO v3 from Iobit. Given that this type of license has a validity period of 1 year from the date of the purchase, the message received by you was sent to remind the customer about the expiration date of the license.

If you do not remember purchasing this, please try to look up the emails that were sent at the date of the initial order or contact Avangate Support for more information.

@evasive: The tech support phone number is not fake, it's just fancy :-) +31 88 000 0008 is Avangate's support line in the Netherlands.
